Faith in a Seed-a Chat with Tim Bolland
|
Join Tim Boland, Executive Director, of The Polly Hill Arboretum, for a historic and modern-day view of wildland plant propagation. Tim has 30 years of experience growing plants from seed as a former plant propagator at Michigan State University to his current work where he built a greenhouse and expanded the Arboretum’s 2-acre production facility.
Tim will outline the nuts and bolts of harvesting, cleaning, storing, and sowing seeds of native plants. Tim established MV Wildtype in 2006, and since that time the program has produced thousands of plants for restoration purposes and use with local homeowners. The program has received national recognition and has also brought some rare plants back from the brink of local extinction. Tim Boland is the Director of the Polly Hill Arboretum on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, West Tisbury, Massachusetts. Tim moved with his wife Laura and two children to the Vineyard in 2002. Before his move to the Vineyard, he was Curator of Horticulture at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois.
